How to Use

「ないことはない」は、完全な否定ではなく、可能性は存在するが、積極的に肯定もしないという、婉曲的な表現を作る際に使用します。

"Nai koto wa nai" is used to express a double negative that means "it's not impossible" or "it's possible, but..." It creates an intentionally indirect or reserved way of acknowledging possibility without giving strong affirmation.

Main Uses

1. Expressing Reserved Possibility

  • 「行けないことはないが、あまり気が進まない」(いけないことはないが、あまりきがすすまない)

  • "It's not that I can't go, but I'm not really keen on it"

  • Used when something is technically possible but there are reservations

  • Often implies hesitation or lack of enthusiasm

  • Commonly followed by 'but' (が/けど) and reasons for hesitation

  • Softens the impact of declining or showing reluctance

2. Avoiding Complete Negation
