How to Use

「ところだった」は、危険な状況や失敗などを、あと少しで起こるところだったが実際には起こらなかった場合に使います。「もう少しで～するところだった」というニュアンスで、ヒヤッとした経験や、危うく失敗しそうになった経験を話すときによく使われます。

"Tokoro datta" is used to express that something (often negative or dangerous) almost happened but didn't. It carries the nuance of "I nearly/almost did " or " almost happened" and is often used to describe close calls or near-misses.
