How to Use

「って」(tte) は、カジュアルな会話で「は」の代わりに使われる表現です。話題を提示するときに使い、「〜については？」や「〜のことは？」というニュアンスを持ちます。フワッと話題を持ち出すニュアンスがあり、聞き手と一緒に考えたい気持ちがある。

"って" (tte) is a casual way to introduce a topic in conversation, replacing "は." It carries the nuance of "speaking of ~" or "about ~."　Often used when the speaker is curious or wants to hear the other person’s thoughts.

Main Uses

1. Introducing a Topic in Casual Speech / 話題を提示する（カジュアル）

「田中さんってどこ出身でしたっけ？」
(たなかさんってどこしゅっしんでしたっけ？)
"Where was Tanaka-san from again?"
Replaces "は" in casual conversation.
Sounds natural and friendly.
Often used when asking about someone or something.

2. Asking for an Opinion / 意見を聞く

「日本の冬って寒い？」
(にほんのふゆってさむい？)
"Are Japanese winters cold?"
Used when asking for someone’s opinion about a topic.
Similar to "は," but sounds more natural in everyday speech.

3. Confirming Information / 確認する

「この映画って有名だよね？」
(このえいがってゆうめいだよね？)
"This movie is famous, right?"
Used when confirming something you believe to be true.
Adds a nuance of seeking agreement or reassurance.
Often used with 「よね？」 or 「でしょ？」 to invite confirmation.
