How to Use

「に決まっている」は、確信や強い推測を表現するときに使います。話者が何かについて「間違いない」「確実だ」と確信している場合や、論理的に考えて「そうに違いない」と推測するときによく使われます。使用する際は相手との関係性や場面に注意が必要です。

"Ni kimatte iru" is used to express certainty or strong conviction. It's used when the speaker is absolutely sure about something or when logical reasoning leads to a strong assumption. Care should be taken when using this expression as it can come across as quite strong or assertive.

Main Uses

1. Logical Conclusion / 論理的な結論

  • 「ジョンは毎日3時間も勉強しているんだから、試験に合格するに決まっている」(じょんはまいにちさんじかんもべんきょうしているんだから、しけんにごうかくするにきまっている)

  • "Since John studies 3 hours every day, he's bound to pass the exam"

  • Used when there is logical evidence leading to a certain conclusion

  • Expresses the speaker's high level of confidence with no room for doubt

  • Often used with "から" (kara) to show cause and effect

2. Based on Past Experience / 経験則による確信
