How to Use
「はずがない」は、論理的に考えて、ある事柄が絶対に起こり得ないという強い否定を表現します。
"Hazu ga nai" expresses a strong denial that something could occur, based on logical reasoning.
Main Uses
1. Logical Impossibility / 論理的な不可能
「ジョンは昨日東京にいたはずがない。ロンドンで仕事をしているから」(じょんはきのうとうきょうにいたはずがない。ろんどんでしごとをしているから)
"John couldn't possibly have been in Tokyo yesterday. He's working in London"
Used when something is logically impossible based on known facts
Emphasizes the speaker's certainty about the impossibility
2. Strong Denial Based on Knowledge / 知識に基づく強い否定
「山田先生がそんな失礼なことを言うはずがない」(やまだせんせいがそんなしつれいなことをいうはずがない)
"There's no way Professor Yamada would say such a rude thing"
Expresses conviction based on knowledge of someone's character or nature
Shows strong disagreement with reported information

動詞普通形 ＋ はずがない (Verb plain form + hazu ga nai)
Ex. 間違える はずがない (machigaeru hazu ga nai) - can't possibly make a mistake
い形容詞 ＋ はずがない (i-adjective + hazu ga nai)
Ex. 難しい はずがない (muzukashii hazu ga nai) - can't possibly be difficult
な形容詞 ＋ な/である ＋ はずがない (na-adjective + na/dearu + hazu ga nai)
Ex. 簡単な はずがない (kantan na hazu ga nai) - can't possibly be easy
*Use「な」only in the present affirmative form.
名詞 ＋ の/である ＋ はずがない (Noun + no/dearu + hazu ga nai)
Ex. 事故 の はずがない (jiko no hazu ga nai) - can't possibly be an accident
*Use「の」only in the present affirmative form.
