How to Use

「ついでに」は、主たる行動や目的に加えて、それと関連する追加的な行動を行う際に使います。効率的に物事を行う時や、ある行動の流れの中で自然に発生する追加的な行動を示します。

"Tsuide ni" is used to describe an additional action that is done along with or on the way to doing something else. It indicates taking advantage of an opportunity or situation to do something extra with minimal additional effort.

Main Uses

1. Adding a Secondary Action / 追加行動の表現

  • 「スーパーに行くついでに本屋にも寄る」(スーパーにいくついでにほんやにもよる)

  • "I'll stop by the book store while I'm out shopping at the supermarket"(because they are close to each other)

  • Used when combining tasks efficiently

  • The main action creates a convenient opportunity for the secondary action

  • Often used for practical, everyday situations

2. Casual Addition / 気軽な追加

  • 「写真を撮るついでに動画も撮っておこう」(しゃしんをとるついでにどうがもとっておこう)

  • "Since we're taking photos, let's shoot some video too"

  • Used for spontaneous decisions to add activities

  • The extra action requires minimal additional effort

  • Often used in casual situations
